Congratulations! You've been selected to appear on the hit game show Jungle Run! You've been put into the role of an explorer seeking the hidden temple of Ox'daya, deep in the heart of the jungle. Your map says that the temple is nearby, but the locals have been sure to give you ample warning. They say that the temple is cursed, and that those who do not leave quickly are at the mercy of the enigmatic Temple Guards; creatures said to be made from mud and animated by dark slime used in ancient, forgotten rites.
But that's not a problem for you, brave adventurer/signer of waivers. You're sure to be the contestant that finds the golden idol hidden at the end of the maze-like temple and win the grand prize. After all, if you were to meet messy defeat, what would be the point of all of the people in the studio audience watching you claim the prize?
The director calls you forward; it's your turn to try your luck at JUNGLE RUN.
[[Go to the entrance|Entrance]]Before you is the cornerstone of lost temple of Ox'daya, but the entrance to the temple is nowhere in sight. Two rough paths seem to stretch out in either direction; a road to the left which seems to lead deeper into the jungle, or a path to the right which leads on to some cliffs above. Perhaps the entrance proper can be found somewhere deeper in the jungle, or perhaps the cliffs might have a place where you could find a better vantage point.
[[Go towards the jungle|Mud Pit (forward)]]
[[Go towards the cliffs|Rock Wall]](set: $time to it-1)
Before you is a large pool of bubbling mud, with a conveniently placed vine hanging from a tree branch above. The vine certainly seems sturdy enough to hold your weight while you swing, but do you trust your grip to carry you across?
[[Make the jump!|Vine Swing (forward)]]
[[Turn Back|Entrance]](set: $time to it-1)
You reach the edge of the cliffs, where a moderately sized climbing wall stands before you. From here, you can see the glow of red lights up on top of the cliff, but you'll need to climb the wall first.
Climbing up or down the wall isn't terribly difficult, but halfway up the wall, there's a small alcove glowing with a soft golden light. You have heard that there are treasures you'll need to collect on the course, but it also could be a trap. What will you do?

The jungle seems to stretch on for ages in this direction. You aren't sure, but at least once you think you might be going in circles. How big is this set, anyway? You're beginning to think that turning back is a good idea, but then again, you could be right at the edge of the jungle. Which way will you go?
[[Keep pressing on!|Gateway]]
[[Go back...|Mud Pit (backward)]](set: $time to it-1)
You arrive on the edge of the ziggarat, overlooking the jungle set below. A rope, left by some previous adventurer (or the props department) has been left hanging over the edge of the overlook, providing an easy path back down to the entrance of the jungle. Meanwhile, you're pretty sure you can leap from here over to the upper part of the cliffs, almost assuring an easier time than climbing them from below. Before you make your choice, however, you spot something glistening around the corner, near a wall to the south.

"DANGER: HOT LAVA
FALLING INTO LAVA MEANS INSTANT DISQUALIFICATION
JUMP CAREFULLY, OR TURN AWAY"
The jump doesn't seem too bad, all things considered. The gap isn't particularly wide, nor is it terribly far up. You would almost be certain to make the jump if you tried. Still, that part about "instant disqualification" does provide a good reason to pause. What will you do?

Or at least, you think you have? There was certainly a picture in your head when you started this game. You had pictured a golden idol sitting on a plinth, maybe the type you'd have to run away with once you had it. But here? There's two such idols; a golden monkey on the left and a golden jaguar on the right; as well as the words "CHOOSE CAREFULLY" written in a pseudo-Mesoamerican script.
It's easy to tell that one of these idols is a trap, but how can you tell? There's got to be some clues left in the temple that give you an idea, right?!

All of a sudden, the lights in the temple and its surroundings begin to go dark. You can hear the sound of a gong ringing, as well as the sound of stone dragging across stone as the entrance to the temple closes shut. Out of the darkness come several temple guards, who take you in their arms and drag you towards the temple dungeons.
The guards bring you into the strange room of bubbling slime and throw you unceremoniously into the small cage hanging above the slime pit. The guards begin to chant and beat drums as a large guard with a shining golden headdress comes forth and begins to speak to the other temple guards; first in a strange made-up language, then in English.
"BROTHERS!" the leader cries. "THIS IS THE ONE WHO HAS AWAKENED US FROM OUR SLUMBER, AND THE ONE WHO SHALL JOIN US IN GUARDING THIS TEMPLE FOR ETERNITY! RELEASE THE WINCH!

[[Turn back|Boss Door]]]As you move to leave the corridor, you hear the worst sound you think you could have possibly heard: The sound of wet footsteps on the stone floor behind you. You turn, only to find your fears confirmed. The Temple Guards have begun to wake, stepping out of their sarcophagi and slowly marching towards you. You turn again to flee, but you see that your escape route has been blocked by more approaching temple guards!
Before you have any way to resist, the guards grab you by the arms and legs and ferry you outside the temple. You are carried out into the light of the temple and into the view of the cheering crowd, who all seem to know what will happen next.
The guards carry you up onto the cliff towards the river of lava gunge, and the realization hits you of exactly what's about to happen. Before you can do anything to stop it, you feel yourself freed from the guards' grasp as you're tossed through the air into the pit of swirling orange gunge.

SPLAT!
You land face-first into the goo, slowly sinking into the mire as the crowd cheers and laughs at your misfortune. Just as you manage to pull yourself up above the slop, you see the approaching slime waterfall!
SPLAT!
You plummet off the edge of the waterfall into yet another pool of thick orange slime. As you surface with a gasp, you find that you've fallen into an off-stage room where a studio attendant waits with a towel.
"Woo, that must have been a shock!" he says with a chuckle as he helps you up out of the muck. Handing you a towel, he points up to a TV screen showing your unfortunate run-in with the guards. "When the time starts running out, the guards get more active! Probably should have told you that before you started the run, but where's the challenge in that, eh?"

After what feels like ages, you find something in the depths of the oubliette. A small curtain with light streaming from underneath it. Pulling back the curtain, you find a bespectacled woman with long black hair sitting at a desk, typing something into a laptop.
"Oh!" the woman exclaims, looking up from her work. "I didn't expect anyone to find me down here! I'm the author of this story, and I suppose I owe you a reward for finding my secret lair, now don't I?"
"You must be interested in looking for secrets if you found a place like this, so as a reward, I'll give you a list of achievements you can hunt for. You'll even get one just for finding this place!"

- You Named Your Dog "INDIANA": Clear the game on Hard difficulty

"Oh, and I suppose there's one last thing I should give you, this being a messy text adventure and all." The woman opens a drawer in the side of her desk, and places a single pie on the desk between you. She closes the laptop and puts it away before motioning to the pie.
"I'll give you a choice. You can do whatever you want with this pie, and I won't resist in any way. If you want some revenge for some of the meaner traps I laid in that dungeon up there, you can take it. If you're more into taking pies than giving them, though, I'll be happy to oblige as well. So, which will you choose?"

Pie flies in all directions as Brigid's face is covered in cream and chocolate filling. Bits of crust drip off of her face as you pull the tin away, and she shudders a little from the cold filling sloughing off into her lap.
"Eguhhh..." she grimaces with a chuckle, wiping away some of the pie. "Thanks for playing my game!"

With a smirk, she picks the pie up in one hand and saunters around to the other side of the table. As you sit to regain your balance, Brigid steps forward and drives the pie into your face, nearly knocking you off-balance before she catches your back in the other hand.

Your vision is momentarily obscured as the taste of whipped cream and chocolate fills your mouth and nose. Brigid grinds the pie in a little bit before dragging the tin up on top of your head, shaking out the last bits of filling and crust onto your hair.
