Some time in the middle ages, the county of Gungeshire is ruled over by a benevolent Baron from his seat in the Castle of Slime. Young people from all over the country journey to Gungeshire to compete in the Baron’s trials, with the successful being rewarded with a place in his household and the failures being unceremoniously tipped into the moat. Will you end the day feasting in the great hall, or crawling out of the mud?

“Hello! Hello! I’m Dave White and I’d like to welcome you to Castle of Slime” he announces “Where our two brave contestants will attempt to impress the owner of this castle, the Baron of Gungeshire, through three trials. The victor will get to enjoy a banquet thrown in their honour and fistfuls of the Baron’s legendary treasure hoard. The loser will get dumped in the castle moat”
The audience clap and cheer.
“Well all the slime’s ready and the Baron doesn’t like to be kept waiting so we’d better meet today’s intrepid contenders” continued Dave
You recognise your cue and run on, waving to the audience.
“Our first contestant is $name! (if: $Female is true)[She's](else:)[He’s] a $age year old $job from $home.”
A fresh faced, smiling brunette jogs on from the other side of the set. Like you she is wearing trainers, black shorts and a t-shirt emblazoned with the show’s logo, although her t-shirt is yellow, unlike your blue one. Her curly hair falls down past her shoulders as she smiles shyly at Dave, contrasting with her pale skin. She’s on the tall side, probably about 5’6”, and slim, but in a sporty way.
“And facing $name will be 20 year old Chloe, a student from Barnstaple”

He strolls over to greet Chloe.
“Hi. How are you doing?” asks Dave “looking forward to getting messy?”
“Not if I can help it” replies Chloe with a nervous grin.
“We’ll see about that” says Dave, walking across to you.
“So $name” he continues “confident of winning?”
You reply with the usual cheesy grin of a gameshow contestant.
“Well now we’ve got the formalities out of the way, let’s get right on with the first game”

Each one had three coloured targets, a Bronze one close to the contestants, a Silver one a bit further away and a Gold one at the very back.
“The Baron likes his Lords and Ladies to be skilled with a bow and arrow, so the first game is an Archery Trial.” announces Dave “$name and Chloe have to try and hit those targets with their arrows. For each arrow that hits the Bronze target they score ten points, for each arrow that hits the Silver target they get twenty points and for each arrow that hits the Gold target they get a massive fifty points! Each competitor get three attempts and the contestant with the highest score wins. If the scores are drawn we'll decide the winner at random. And while victory will be sweet for the winner, there’s also a sweet surprise awaiting the loser.”
You and Chloe nod in agreement and head to your respective positions. “$name won the toss before the show started, so Chloe will go first. Are you ready?” asks Dave.
You nod and pick up your first arrow.

A stagehand dressed as a medieval serving wench wheels out a trolley of cakes. You select the thick lemon meringue, then walk up to Chloe. She’s standing nervously, biting her lip and with her eyes virtually closed. You hold it millimetres from her, then bring it back and slam it into her face. Meringue and lemon filling fly out in all directions, and Chloe removes the plate and clears the goo from her eyes you see her face is covered in sticky, luminous yellow pie filling and bit of meringue.
“So your aim with a pie is just as good as your aim with a bow and arrow” enthuses Dave “Let’s see if you can keep up the good form in the next round”.(set: $Player to $Player+1)](if: $P1<$C1)[Dave turns to speak to Chloe “Congratulations, you played it safe and it paid off”
“Yeah, I’m really pleased to be one step closer to winning the prize and avoiding the gunge” replies Chloe
“Well it’s going to get even better for you as your prize for winning this round is to pie $name in the face” says Dave.
The audience cheer and Chloe smiles. She carefully chooses a lemon meringue pie, hefts it in her hand, walks over to you and pulls her arm back.
You close your eyes and feel the cold filling impact on your face and splatter down your chest. You scrape away the muck from your eyes and see Chloe and the entire audience creased up with laughter in front of you.
“Oooo, you’re quite a mess there $name” says Dave “let’s hope you do better in the next round”.(set: $Chloe to $Chloe+1)](if: $P1 is $C1)["It's a tie!" declares Dave "We'll have to toss off for it". The audience titter at the weak double entendre as Dave fumbled in his trousers. He emerges with a huge gold-coloured coin. "If it's heads Chloe wins the round; if it's tails $name does". Dave flips the coin in the air. He catches it and slaps it onto the back of his hand. "The winner is..." he begins, trying to ramp up the tension "Chloe!".
Dave turns to speak to Chloe “Congratulations, you played it safe and it paid off”
“Yeah, I’m really pleased to be one step closer to winning the prize and avoiding the gunge” replies Chloe
“Well it’s going to get even better for you as your prize for winning this round is to pie $name in the face” says Dave.

“Welcome to the Gatehouse” he continues “A wise man once declared that it was better to be lucky than good, so here the contestants will face a trial of luck. The floor of this gatehouse is littered with hidden traps to deter attackers. Each of our contestants will attempt to go through the gatehouse setting off as few traps as possible, but beware. Standing on one of the booby trapped flagstones will cause them to get a nasty shock from the gatekeeper above. The contestant completes the course quickest wins, but only if they set off fewer than three traps.”
You survey the floor and see it consists of fifty large flagstones arranged in a grid five wide by ten long. There is absolutely no indication as to where the traps might be.
“Chloe will go first” announces Dave “and just so it doesn’t spoil the surprise $name will be locked away so the Baron's traps will remain a mystery.”
A stagehand dressed as a medieval Man-at-Arms escorts you backstage where you sit down with a magazine and a cup of tea. About fifteen minutes later the same stagehand comes to fetch you. Dave is standing by the end of the floor. Chloe is stood next to him, her sodden yellow t-shirt clinging tightly to her figure and her damp hair dangling around her shoulders.

You reply that it’ll be hard but there’s everything still to play for. Dave turns to speak to Chloe.
“You’ve pulled it back to one all before the third round. Do you think you can keep going and win the next one too?” he asks.
“I certainly hope so” replies Chloe, smiling brightly
“Well we’ll see about that in a minute” continues Dave “We’ll give our contestants a bit of time to get cleaned up then we’ll go to the final round.]

The first one to reach the final room and solve the final puzzle will be the victor.”

“The puzzles are all the same sort” explains Dave “There are five rooms and inside each room you will find two guards, whom we like to call Albert and Boris. All of our guards are either Knights or Knaves. The guards will each give you a statement. Knights only ever tell the truth, Knaves only ever lie. You have to work out which door to go through. Get it right and you progress quickly to the next room, get it wrong and not only will you be delayed, you’ll also get a messy surprise. Everything clear?”

Chloe runs forward and enters the dungeon. The seconds tick by, seeming to take forever. From where you are you can’t see Chloe’s progress but you can hear the gasps and applause of the audience as they follow her progress.

“Inside one of these boxes is the button that wins you the game” says Albert, each word reverberating around the room “Inside the other two are buttons which release the gunge above your head”.

Perched precariously above the gunge on a flimsy looking plank is Chloe, wearing a skimpy (and historically inaccurate) yellow bikini and a worried look on her face. You sit down in the plush red throne next to a large gold lever. The most incongruous aspect of the set is a large multi-coloured wheel divided into various sections and with a large arrow pointing to it.
“Are you enjoying it up there?” asks Dave turning to face Chloe.
“Err. No really” replies Chloe, fidgeting nervously, her toes dangling inches above the slime.
“Well I wouldn’t worry about it, you won't be there for long” says Dave, laughing along with audience as he does so
“Well Chloe is poised above the moat” he continues “but there is one more twist to the game. The Baron of Gungeshire likes a bit of chaos so Chloe gets one spin of our Wheel of Misfortune to see what will happen today. Ready Chloe? Then let’s spin the wheel.”
Dave gives the wheel a vigorous spin.

“I wouldn’t get too excited up there Chloe” says Dave “$name may have a bucket of beans over the head but you’re about to get much worse than that. Pull the lever $name and show her what happens to losers on Castle of Slime.”
You reach out and grab the big golden lever by your throne. Chloe bites her lip and nervously grips the seat. Keeping your eyes firmly fixed on her you pull the handle back.
You feel the lever click and a siren wails above you. Chloe hunches her shoulders as the seat beneath her tilts forward, tipping her into the gunge. She lands on her front, sending splashes of gunge high into the air. She is submerged momentarily but soon emerges, the thick brown slime plastered all over her face, hair and bikini clad body. She stands up, waist deep in the brown goo, and wipes her face clean just as more gunge, red this time, lands on her from above. Chloe stands stock still, her face screwed up into a grimace as she waits until the downpour stops.

The wheel clicks around and finally settles on a section marked ‘Watch Out Below”.
“Oh dear, $name” says Dave “the castle kitchen are throwing out all their slops and unfortunately they seem to have chosen to throw them off the battlements right above you”
Sticky green gunge pours down on you from above, splattering off your hair and onto your exposed skin. Chloe leans back in her throne in paroxysms of laughter while the audience shout and cheer. The cool gunge flows down your chest to pool in your lap, soaking through your (if: $Female is false)[thin shorts](else:)[bikini bottoms].
“Well you’ve already had one gunging” says Dave “but it’s going to get even worse for you now. Pull the lever Chloe and show $name what happens to losers on Castle of Slime.”
Chloe reaches out and grips the big golden lever. You lean forward nervously, muscles tense. Suddenly Chloe yanks the lever back and a siren wails above you. Your seat tips forward and with a sickening lurch you feel yourself sliding towards the brown slime. You shut your eyes a moment before impact and land in the cool gunge with a tremendous splash. You surface moments later, gasping with the shock. You hear laughter and cheers from the audience as yet more gunge splatters down on you from above. You stand up, waist deep in the slime, and wipe your face.
“Oooo” enthuses Dave “you’re a real mess there $name, but that’s what happens to failed challengers on Castle of Slime. Come back next week for more fun as two more contestants enter the Castle of Slime. Goodbye.”
Chloe, still pristine in her yellow t-shirt, stands up from her throne, laughing as she looks at you, covered from head to foot.
“Having fun in there?” she asks, a relieved smile on her face “I’m so glad it was you instead of me, it looks like the slime’s got everywhere!”
You sink back into the gunge. If only you’d been a bit luckier
